The Whittlesea Agricultural Society Inc. extends an invitation to local beef breeders to participate in the ‘Irwin Stockfeeds Hoof & Hook Competition’ on Sunday 7th November 2021.

We thank our naming rights sponsor ‘Irwin Stockfeeds’ and major sponsor ‘Nutrien Ag Solutions Euroa & Seymour’ and our other participating sponsors for agreeing to sponsor the competition in 2021.

The competition, usually part of the Annual Whittlesea Show, provides an opportunity to beef breeders to benchmark their cattle against other local breeders.  Whilst this year the competition will again be run with a very different platform due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Society believes that the important annual feed-back that this competition provides for the entrants should not fall victim again this year.

Those entering the competition will need to comply with any government restrictions in place on the day of the competition and due to the constantly challenging position we all find ourselves in, there may be changes to the venue or drop-off times for entries and so therefore all entrants must supply contact details, preferably both a mobile phone number (for SMS messaging) and email address.

The competition will be run under the normal guidelines and regulations of the Whittlesea Agricultural Society Inc. as they are applicable to this event however, as the office will be closed all entries must be through the online entry portal ShowDay Online. https://showday.online/show/whittlesea You will need to register to create an account. Record your user name and password as this will be your way of entering future Whittlesea Ag Society Competitions and Shows. Once logged in you then click ‘Place an entry’ and follow the prompts to complete your entries. Please don’t hesitate to contact Ross or myself if you need support to complete your entry. Credit card payment will be taken at time of online entry.

This year discounted Entry Fees are only available to “Financial Society Members.”  Society Membership is $60 and the annual membership year is 1st July 2021 to 30th June 2022.  If you were not a Society Member in 2020, then any new Society Membership will be approved by the Council of the Whittlesea Agricultural Society before the competition date.

The closing date for this competition is 30th October 2021.

Late entries will not be accepted unless pre-approved by the Superintendent Ross Draper.

We thank our naming rights sponsor ‘Irwin Stockfeeds’ and major sponsor ‘Nutrien Ag Solutions Euroa & Seymour’ and our other participating sponsors for agreeing to sponsor the competition in 2021.

Despite the cancellation of our annual Whittlesea Show, we were pleased to still be able to provide an opportunity for beef breeders to benchmark their cattle against other local breeders.

Whilst this year the competition was run with a very different platform due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Society believed that the annual feedback that this competition provides for the entrants was significant and the competition still needed to go ahead.

Just as the name suggests, the cattle are judged both on the hoof, which may mean being paraded around in a show-ring environment on their appearance, structural soundness, fat cover and temperament before being sent to the abattoir for further scoring based on how the meat looks hanging on the hook and this is where carcass data is vital.
